An assembly such as this

Part 1 of the trilogy by Pamela Aidan, this book details Darcy's thoughts from his stepping into Hertfordshire to the point of leaving it and dissuading Bingley from Jane's thoughts. It was interesting to see Darcy was human after all, but at times I almost had the notion that Darcy was a little tweaky too crazy about Elizabeth instead of a mild crush (as it seemed from P&P).
Some of the new characters seem to be an interesting contrast to Darcy, especially Darcy's valet - Fletcher - who is excessively fashion conscious to make his master look the best among the rest, but Darcy's need for simplicity and 'invisibility' makes him a bad servant. That bit of the story was quite funny.
When I read P&P, it almost gave me the impression that rich people in those didn't have much work to do, but in this case, the author did a good job of giving an idea of what sort of working conditions rich people had.
An interesting read. Now I have to wait until May 2007 for the final part of the trilogy and that seems a long wait.
